In 1917, Peadar Clancy opened a drapery at 94 Talbot Street and called it The Republican Outfitters. It sold clothes to the people of the north inner city, and it was a meeting place for the people rebuilding the movement after the Rising. We took our name from that shop, as a tribute rather than a continuation, and you can read the full story on our Our Story page.
This blog is where we'll tell the stories behind what we make. Every design we stitch draws on real people and real events, and we think those stories deserve more room than a product description gives them.
What you'll find here
- Irish republican history: the people, the dates and the places behind our designs, from 1916 to the War of Independence.
- Anniversaries worldwide: short posts marking the radicals, trade unionists, anti-imperialists and anti-fascists who fought for working people, in Ireland and far beyond it.
- Behind the stitches: how each piece is embroidered and made to order here in Dublin.
- New designs: the story behind each one when it launches.
Design your own
We don't think good political designs should only come from us. If you have an idea for a t-shirt, whether it's a slogan, a figure from history or a cause you stand behind, you can send it to us and we'll look at every one.
- Email us your design and we'll review it for approval.
- Choose whether you want it printed or embroidered.
- The design stays yours. You keep full ownership.
- If other customers buy it, you earn royalties on every further sale.
Find out how to send yours in on our Submit Your Design page.
Bulk and event orders
We do both embroidery and print, and we take on large custom orders. If you're kitting out a club, a branch, a commemoration, a march or any other event, we can make your gear to order, with your own design or one of ours.
Tell us what you need on our Bulk & Event Orders page and we'll come back to you with a quote.
We'll post regularly, so check back, or follow along as the anniversaries come round.
